INITIAL ANNOUNCEMENT- May 2007
After wide consultations with the community, the organizing
committee prepared a program with introductory invited talks by
experts in 4D-Var and EnKF on the topics considered to be most
important for the intercomparison of these methods. In this program,
posted in our website, there is one introductory review session, and
7 additional sessions devoted to the problems of balance,
nonlinearity, model errors, localization, computational issues,
validation, and synergies between the two methods.
Each session except the first, starts with a poster session, invited
talks, and ends with an extensive discussion session, all related to
the subject of the session.
We welcome contributions to the specific
subjects discussed in sessions 2 to 8. In order to allow the chairs
to structure the discussion session, contributions to the
discussions can include up to 3 slides for each session. They should
be sent to the organizers 4 weeks before the workshop via electronic
mail, and will be posted on the web prior to the workshop, as will
“discussion points” prepared by each session chair. Technical
guidelines related to the format of the posters will be also posted
on our web site.
